What is ezyZip?

ezyZip is a free online tar.bz2 to zip converter that runs in your browser. No need to install any additional software. It supports a myriad of other file conversion options too.

Unlike other online archive conversion utilities, ezyZip DOES NOT enforce file size restrictions or require uploading files to a server. It runs locally as a browser app, thus making it much quicker than other online conversion tools. This means youll be able to convert large compressed files! This also ensures your privacy will be protected as no file data will leave your browser.

What is a TAR.BZ2 file?

A tar.bz2 is a file format for packaging multiple files and directories into a single file. First the files and directories are archived into a tar file. TAR stands for Tape ARchive and is an ancient format (in computer years!) that was initially utilised for backing up data into magnetic tape. It doesnt actually compress the data.

The tar file is then compressed into a bz2 file, which utilises the Burrows–Wheeler compression algorithm. It does a better job compressing file than older compression formats but is considerably slower.

This method of archiving is commonly used in unix/linux environments to package and distribute software and other files.

A tbz2 is the same file type but with a different file extension.
