How to convert folder to SFX file?
Below are step by step instructions for converting a folder online using ezyZip.
- Select folder to convertClick "Select folder to convert" to bring up the folder chooser
- (Optional) Set compression level(Optional) Set the desired compression level by clicking the down arrow next to "Create SFX File". This will only work with archive formats that support compression.
- Create SFX archiveClick "Create SFX File". It will start creating the SFX archive from your folder contents.
Once all the files are processed, the "Save SFX File" button will appear. - Save your archiveClick "Save SFX File" to save the folder archive to your selected destination folder.
- Click the Dropbox iconClick on the Dropbox logo () in the SFX file selector button.
- Authorise and pick filesThe Dropbox file chooser will appear. You will need to authorise access to ezyZip the first time.
- Files appear in the listingOnce you have selected the SFX file, it will download it to your browser and initiate the conversion.
- Save back to DropboxTo save the converted SFX file to Dropbox, click on "Dropbox" dropdown under the "Save SFX File" button. This will require authorisation the first time you run it.
The file will be stored in /Apps/ezyZip folder.

An SFX file (Self-Extracting archive) is an executable file that contains compressed data along with built-in extraction code. Unlike standard archive formats, SFX files do not require any decompression software to be installed on the recipient's computer — the user simply runs the file and the contents are automatically extracted. This makes SFX archives ideal for distributing compressed files to users who may not have archive utilities installed.
ezyZip uses the 7-Zip format to generate its SFX archives, producing .exe files that will self-extract on Windows platforms. If you are on a non-Windows platform or prefer not to run the executable, you can also extract the contents of ezyZip-generated SFX files using the ezyZip web platform.
