What is a tar file?

A tar file (sometimes referred to as a tarball) is a collection of files & folders wrapped into a single package.

It is commonly used in unix/linux environments and generally gets compressed into a tar.gz or tgz file.

How to open tar file?

  1. Under "Select tar file to open", click on browse (or your browser equivalent)
  2. Select the tar file you wish to extract.
  3. Click "Extract". It will list the content of the archive.
  4. Click the green "Save" button on the individual files to save to your local drive.

What operating system and browser does ezyZip support?

ezyZip supports any OS that can run a modern browser. We have tested it to work with Windows, MacOS, Linux (e.g. Ubuntu, Mint, Debian), Android, ChromeOS (Chromebook), iOS (iPhone, iPad & iPod Touch).

Ensure you are using the latest version of one of the popular browsers or their variants. (e.g. Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge).

What is ezyZip?

ezyZip is a free online tool for managing archive files. It supports zip, 7zip (7z), rar, tar, tar.xz, txz, tar.bz2, tar.gz, tgz, jar, ear, war, zi.

Unlike other online utilities, ezyZip DOES NOT have file size restrictions or require you to upload / download files to a server.  It runs locally as a browser app, making it much quicker than other similar online tools. Your privacy is protected as no file data leaves the browser.
